Your cushion foam may arrive compressed into a smaller parcel. Open it as soon as it arrives and allow 24–48 hours for the foam to return to its full size and shape.
You can leave it flat while it expands, or fit it into your cushion cover while it is still slightly compressed. That can make the insert easier to handle.
Why is the foam compressed?
Foam takes up a lot of space for its weight. Compressing it reduces the size of the delivery parcel and helps keep freight costs down.
If your new insert looks flatter than expected when you first open it, give it time to recover before judging the finished shape.
Unpacking your foam
- Remove the packaging straight away. Keep scissors and blades clear of the foam as you open the parcel.
- Give the foam room to expand. If you are not fitting a cover yet, lay the insert flat with space around it.
- Position it in the cover if you are ready. You can fit cushion foam while it is still slightly compressed. Make sure it sits correctly inside the cover, then let it continue expanding there.
- Allow 24–48 hours. Whether the foam is lying flat or inside its cover, give it time to recover its normal size and shape.
Can I put the cover on before the foam has expanded?
Yes. Slightly compressed foam can be easier to fit into a cushion cover. Position the insert correctly and allow it to finish expanding inside the cover.
